More Bullet Journal Inspiration!
Happy October, my dear reader!
It is a wonderful month we have ahead.
Last month, I forced myself to get back in the rhythm of setting up a bullet journal spread and planning everything out.
If you read my September post, then you know all about how my depression has been pretty bad for a good few months, but I just couldn’t handle the unproductivity and lack of control I felt that I had over my life.
So, to keep this productivity going, I set up the entirety of my October planner to share with you!
For me, this month is full of many very stressful things, so I wanted to keep the spread fun and amusingly cliché for this Halloween month, while also being completely functional since there is a LOT to plan.
As I do every month, it is time to ask ourselves:
- What color does this month feel like?
- What is the main goal of this month?
You may notice as you scroll through this post that there is a lot of black. I often try not to use this shade in my bullet journal since it is difficult to write on without a white pen. BUT! This month is the month of Samhain, and I am going to try to live it up as spookily as I possibly can. So, black paper and white ink is a welcomed change in my planner.
Really though, October has more of a feeling to me than a color. So, the goal would be to portray some sense of that feeling if possible.
But, if we’re being honest, we know that the stereotypical colors for the month are orange, green, and purple. I decided to go with purple. I’ve realized that I don’t have that many purple things even though I very much enjoy the color. So, here you go purple, this setup is dedicated to you.
Next, is the question of our main goal. For me, that is working on this blog (as I said in my last post) as well as getting through the beginnings of applying for grad school. EEK!
Now, let’s get on to why you’re really here… The fun pictures!

I love dripping things like candles and that one episode of Spongebob where the Krusty Krab had walls that oozed green slime (like there always do). Taking inspiration from this I thought it would be fun to incorporate this dripping throughout my spread, as well as bats and spiders.
There aren’t any actual drawings of spiders or their webs on this page, but instead a more vague idea I tried going with.
You see that ‘O’ in October?
Well, I was trying to make it like a Tim Burton-y eye but white, so it was almost like the moon in the night sky. Also, having the longer eyelashes was to seem more spiders to somehow incorporate the theme. Kind of like the maggot that lives in Emily from The Corpse Bride.
Oh, that would have been a fabulous ‘O.’ Well… Perhaps next time!
October Breakdown

For some, this October breakdown might be a bit small to plan everything they need. I have had full-page monthly layouts before, but I just don’t use them as much as I use everything else in my planner.
After years of having my own bullet journal, I learned that although I like to see everything I have to do in the month, I only want to get the gist of it.
Please don’t overwhelm my brain by detailing every little thing on one page.
I’d rather have an indicator of what is scheduled for the said day, that I can look into on my weekly spread which is in more detail.
This is the reason for the ‘A’ and ‘♡’ in the Key.
Instead of writing what specific assignment I have due on Saturday I just put an ‘A’ and then I can check the corresponding week to see which exact assignment it is. Although, I do tend to schedule the completion of my assignments prior to their due dates.
Habit Tracker
![](http://www.doviejakobsen.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/IMG_1176-1024x683.jpg)
My habit trackers stay pretty consistent with how I set them up on the page.
For this month I thought I should stick to the theme though and find a way to spookify the title and anything else if possible.
Considering I cut out around 25 bats in total (using black, white, and kraft paper), it doesn’t hurt to make just one more, that’s a little larger to write “habits” in.
I think this was a good call.
One Good Thing
![](http://www.doviejakobsen.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/IMG_1178-1024x683.jpg)
The longer you follow my posts, the more you may feel compelled to add a “One Good Thing” page to your own bullet journal.
As always, this page is to help remind me that not every day is bad, and there is a lot that I accomplish, even when I don’t think too fondly of myself.
It is like a “month in review” where you can see the development of your positivity and self-assessment every day.
I would love to have someone who is excited to hear every. single. one. of my writings for the month.
Miscellaneous Page
![](http://www.doviejakobsen.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/IMG_1179-1024x683.jpg)
A miscellaneous page may not seem necessary, but I always tend to find something to write on this page. Usually, something is assigned to me by my therapist.
And if it doesn’t get used… well, it sure is cute, now, isn’t it?
Week 1
![](http://www.doviejakobsen.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/IMG_1182-1024x683.jpg)
![](http://www.doviejakobsen.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/IMG_1188-1024x683.jpg)
I put two pictures for this one, so my little-bats page could have its own dedicated spot.
Much like last month, I chose 2 thin (purple) washi tapes and 1 thick (purple) washi tape.
Here, I put my first spider web.
You may notice that I often put one of my little doodles in the bottom right-hand corner. This is because it is my weekly goals section in which I do not like to put many things. I already have small goals I like to accomplish every day. If I put too many bigger goals to be accomplished each week, I’ll feel really down when I couldn’t get to them all.
So I keep it simple! (The doodles almost are to remind me that there is no need for an excessive amount of bullets in this portion of the page.)
Week 2
![](http://www.doviejakobsen.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/IMG_1190-1024x683.jpg)
The last two months I have liked changing out my layout every other week. So, in Week 1, 3, and 5, I have both thin washi tapes places horizontally through the pages while the large washi tape splits the page vertically. While Week 2 and 4 have the thin washi tape placed vertically and the thick washi tape horizontally.
Week 3
![](http://www.doviejakobsen.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/IMG_1192-1-1024x683.jpg)
Along with not wanting to have every single week look the same, I thought it would be fun to have every other page be swapped out in color.
As you can see, this means that once I started my weekly spreads, my bullet journal’s pages became kraft, black, kraft, black, kraft, black, etc.
I can’t wait to see how it looks once I actually start using it for the month. (Hopefully not bad!)
Week 4
![](http://www.doviejakobsen.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/IMG_1195-1-1024x683.jpg)
I won’t repeat an explanation of this page, I’m sure it looks much like the past ones, haha.
Week 5
![](http://www.doviejakobsen.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/IMG_1197-1024x683.jpg)
I ended up loving how this split spider web came out.
I was honestly just curious as to how the text would look on each page if I used black on the kraft paper and white on the black paper.
And wow, oh, wow, I LOVE it! I wish I had done more of these split webs all throughout.
Decorative Back Page

I didn’t have a page like this in my September bullet journal setup.
If you didn’t know, I have a clear, A5-sized, gold 6-ring binder as the outer part of my bullet journal.
So, since I don’t have anything else after this spread, you can fully see the back of the very last page in my binder.
I figured that if I can see it, then everyone can see it. And I want to give everyone who gets a glimpse, a taste of the holiday spirit!
A quick side note: I love love spider webs! I know that getting a spider web tattoo is very common, but ahhh I love them. Especially, when it’s on a joint, like an elbow or a knee.
I don’t have any tattoo’s but I do have one in my mind that I plan on getting in the coming years in memory of my grandmothers but who knows! Maybe getting the one (it’s actually two) tattoo(s) will unleash the beast within me and drive me to get all the other tattoos I think are so wonderful.
If I ever got a spider web it would have to be in a heart shape, of course. Oh my, how thrilling!
YouTube Video
Unlike last month, this bullet journal spread has its own dedicated YouTube video where you can watch along while I set it up for the month! Check it out!

As well, I have a clear glitter A5 gold 6 ring binder. I cannot recall where I got it from but it looks like this.
Don’t forget the use of scissors, a glue stick, tweezers, and lots and lots of patience.
Happy Samhain, everyone!
